1. Hang two shower curtains
Hanging two shower curtains in your bathroom instantly elevates the look and feel. The secret to a high end look is to choose linen curtains with minimal detailing, simple textures (e.g. waffle), and stripes. Bolder patterns/textures and vinyl (plastic) curtains have a higher chance of making your space appears cheap.
In addition to choosing the right curtain, be sure to choose an elegant hook that compliments your curtains. If you’re ever in doubt, the common “s” shaped metallic ones are a great option. However, if you want something a bit more, try to find hooks with a ball, circle, or crystal at the end.
I would avoid completely transparent hooks (it adds no value) and hooks with the tiny balls at the top (it adds too much visual cluttered).
2. Add some greenery
Adding greenery to any space instantly makes it more classy. It sends the aura of “hey! some thought were put into decorating this space.” Greenery (of any kind) has the ability to transform your home and make it feel more intentionally decorated.
However, you may want to choose a certain type over another depending on your design style. Generally, smaller scale plants (e.g. olive trees) are more forgiving and can be used in any design style—whether it’s modern, coastal, or minimalist. Whereas, larger scale plants (e.g. palm of paradise) are better suited for contemporary and modern homes.
3. Replace your product containers with matching refillable bottles
The reason for doing this is obvious and well understood. It gives your space a clean and cohesive look—unlike the original bottles with its many colors and shapes.
These bottles can carry a price depending on where you buy them. But our goal is to buy the cheapest ones. Why? Because the reality is that they all do the same thing and one is not superior to the others.
Spend that extra cash somewhere else—better yet save it for a raining day.
4. Hang some artwork
Artwork makes any space feel wholesome and carefully decorated—the bathroom is no different. You can set the tone of the room depending on the style of the artwork you choose.
For a moody feel choose very pigmented art, for a classic look choose black and white prints, for a costal vibe choose prints with pastel colors of blues, greens, oranges and browns.
5. Buy a statement rug
The area rug is the place to have some fun. Buy a bold rug to add some variation to the space. Likewise, to pull colors from to coordinate your towels and other decorative items.
Just make sure the rug complement the material and colors of your bathroom floor, walls, and vanity. It doesn’t have to match one another. But at the very least, neither the rug or existing elements should be competing for your attention—that’s how you know you found the right balance.
6. Use a wall mounted product dispenser
A wall mounted soap dispenser naturally makes your space look and feel more sophisticated. It also helps to decrease cluttered by minimizing the number of bottles you have in your shower. It’s a win-win if you ask me.
My personal favorite is the Simplehuman Triple Wall Mount Shower Pump. I had it for two years before mysteriously misplacing it in my most recent move. But I genuinely loved this thing—I’ll be replacing it very soon.
7. Invest in a chic shower caddy
A quality and beautifully designed shower caddy can add functionality and Interest to your shower. It looks like a decorative piece on the shower wall. Rather than cluttered and cheap like the wired ones.
My favorite shower caddy is the Oxo 3 Tier Aluminum Shower Caddy. I purchased it almost 3 years ago and have used it every day since. I haven’t experienced any rusting or discoloration. I love the shininess of the aluminum frame, the small footprint, and the added functionality it offers. I truly love this shower caddy. It’s very attractive to the eyes and highly functional.
Nonetheless, choose one that is best suited for your needs and space.
The Takeaway
Using any of these recommendations will elevate your space. However, I recommend to implement at least 3, in order to see a difference in your bathroom’s look and feel. What’s great about these recommendations is that they are easy to do and affordable for many.
Remember, having a functional and aesthetically pleasing home doesn’t have to be expensive.
